Our Programs
"Executive for A Day"
Powered by: One Life @ A Time, INC., in partnership with Voices Corp. and Indy Humane Society.
Objective: To empower at-risk youth ( We call them at “Promise” youth), by providing hands-on experience in various executive leadership roles and encouraging them to use their voices. This approach enhances their skills and confidence, affirming that their voices truly matter.
Outcome: The youth will gain a comprehensive understanding of executive leadership by expressing their views and voices while exploring roles in creativity, financials, marketing, buying, sales, visual merchandising, and social media. Their dedication will make a lasting impact. Through this program, we strive to create meaningful change, One Life @ A Time.
Participants: At-risk youth, (We call them at “Promise youth”), will gain valuable insights into executive leadership and team collaboration through their active engagement and voice.

“Changing the narratives One Life @ A Time”
“I am a firm believer that the world filled with crime can only be changed by starting with our youth. It is very important that we stay active in young men’s lives, especially ones without a positive father or father figures that the youth entrusted in to lead the way.” 2019 TC
"Society tells my students that people like them should aspire to prison the same way I understood I would go to college. They only listen to media that reinforces what they've been told all their lives: that they are worthless and that they will die or be incarcerated before they reach twenty-five".
— Donald J. Shoemaker
“My students tag tables, walls, and chairs because their greatest fear is that no one will ever remember them. They do not believe they can give impassioned speeches, rally people in protest, paint masterpieces. They think they will die, small and forgotten, and it dictates their every action”
— Thomm Quackenbush
“[J]UVENILES ARE MORE VULNERABLE OR SUSCEPTIBLE TO NEGATIVE INFLUENCES AND OUTSIDE PRESSURES, INCLUDING PEER PRESSURE. (‘[Y]OUTH IS MORE THAN A CHRONOLOGICAL FACT. IT IS A TIME AND CONDITION OF LIFE WHEN A PERSON MAY BE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO INFLUENCE AND TO PSYCHOLOGICAL DAMAGE’). THIS IS EXPLAINED IN PART BY THE PREVAILING CIRCUMSTANCE THAT JUVENILES HAVE LESS CONTROL, OR LESS EXPERIENCE WITH CONTROL, OVER THEIR OWN ENVIRONMENT.”
— ROPER V. SIMMONS, 543 U.S. 551, 569 (2005)
